Child Support Debtor Rules

National Child Support Network and the responsible Parents of the United States of America want to ensure that all children receive every possible opportunity available to them. NCSN has some common sense rules for debtor parents who appear to believe that they are entitled to certain rights and privileges. The rights of the children are more important than the rights of the debtor parents or anyone that hinders child support enforcement.

RULE 1: As a child support debtor, you do not have the right to start a new family if you cannot support the family you already have. If you do, you have no right to complain about court ordered support levels. You do have the right to get a second job. You do have the right to lower your standard of living. Quit being self-centered and think about your children's well being.

RULE 2: As a child support debtor, you do not have the right to expect tax dollars to pick up your slack. We are all paying too much in tax without your help. Stop being part of the problem and start being part of the solution.

RULE 3: As a child support debtor, you do not have the right to have your child support reduced because you visit your children. Your children deserve a good relationship with their parents no matter what sacrifices you have to make.

RULE 4: As a child support debtor, you do not have the right to pay less than the court ordered support amount because you have other bills. Your children are more important than your financial obligations. You do have the right to get a second job.

RULE 5: As a child support debtor, you do not have the right to complain about how the custodial parent is raising the children. Get involved in your children's lives and make sure they have every chance. If you do not have a good relationship with your children, it is YOUR fault.

RULE 6: As a child support debtor, you do not have the right to expect someone else to raise and support your children. You are morally and legally responsible to your children. Be the parent your child needs. There is no substitute.
